Sega’s The Conduit Struggling in Initial Reviews

June 24th, 2009 by admin

So you thought the Wii was just for tennis and fitness programs? Think again. Finally, after months of eager anticipation, Sega’s Wii-controlled first-person shooter game is on the shelves: The Conduit. Developed by High Voltage Software, The Conduit features a Mr. Ford who is, not surprisingly, expected to save the world.

The story goes something like this. Since Washington D.C. has come under fire by The Drudge, an alien invading force, Mr. Ford, secret service agent par excellence, is summoned to solve the problem and save the day. Unfortunately, his sponsor “The Trust,” is mixed up in the problem, and Ford finds himself needing to unravel the betrayal as well as battle the bad guys.

If it sounds strangely familiar and vaguely boring, you’re not alone. Gaming artist Tae Kim gives it a passing grade, and but isn’t totally excited over the fact that The Conduit recollects the tenor of GoldenEye (vintage 1997). But while Goldeneye may have a more engaging 007-style story, The Conduit doesn’t. As Kim complained, “[it was a] boring story that had me tapping the A button as fast as I could.” What did he catch? “Some mumbo jumbo about some shadow organization that’s plotting to take over the world using aliens or something; I don’t know, it didn’t make a lot of sense.”

January 2nd, 2009 by AveryQuest

A portion of a Pocket-Lint review… The Balance Board support helps nudge this one right to must-have status for those with a Wii Fit gathering dust. A cracking control method rounds off a fantastic all round package that anyone with a penchant for fun will absolutely adore

Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades - review

January 1st, 2009 by AveryQuest

A portion of a GamingNexus review… In almost every way Guitar Hero: On Tour Decades is exactly like the original. It still hurts your hand, has tinny audio and doesn’t feel quite right

Brothers In Arms: Double Time

November 27th, 2008 by AveryQuest

Brothers In Arms Screen Shot

Brothers In Arms Screen Shot

Publisher: Ubisoft

Developer: Gearbox Software

ESRB: Mature

Genre: First Person Shooter

Rating: Recommended

Originally announced last year, Ubisoft’s World War II first person shooter Brothers In Arms: Double Time is finally available on Wii.  Was it worth it the wait?  Well, Double Time is a good value for your money since it includeds both Brother In Arms: Road To Hill 30 and Brothers In Arms: Earned In Blood, two critically acclaimed games ( when they were released) that take a more strategic tack than other WWII shooters.  Instead of putting you in the combat boots of a one-man army as in Call Of Duty or Metal Of Honor, this title gives you a squad to command.

Using the Wii remote, you can direct your troops (or, in some missions, a tank) to suppress the enemy with gunfire while you sneak around your distracted foes and take them out.  It’s a bit like a realtime strategy game mixed with a first-person shooter, and it’s great when it works.  Sadly, the AI for both allies and enemies isn’t as good as it should be sometimes your soldiers just stand there even when you tell them to move and take cover, and other times your buddies will run to a waypoint but take a diffrent path than the safe one you just took, instead passing right through the enemy’s line of fire and getting killed.  It’s also unfortunate that there’s no multiplayer of any sort.  That means no online war, which definitely hurts the game’s longevity.

What Game Reviews Are All About

November 24th, 2008 by AveryQuest

With hundreds of Wii games to choose from it can be hard to work out where you should be spending your money and when you should keep your wallet in your pocket. This is where reading game reviews and articles can be a lifesaver.

By reading a variety of video game articles you can discover which games are good and worth paying top dollar for and which games are not even worth a second glance. If you are buying games for yourself then this means you will have a lot more fun per dollar spent. If you are buying the games for a relative or friend it means that you can buy them a gift that they will use and love you for, not a gift they will store in their cupboard to collect dust.

There is a large variety of places you can read game reviews and articles. One of the first places you should look is a magazine, which relates specifically to Nintendo. They will offer game reviews as well as reviews on different Wii accessories. However, you can expect to spend some money if you want to read these magazines.

If you desire a cheaper alternative then you can go online. As long as you have an internet connection you can browse hundreds (if not thousands) of toys and games articles. You can view multiple reviews on the same game with just the click of a button at no extra cost.

The majority of these articles will be of relatively high quality and will provide you with the information you will require to make an educated purchase. When reading these game reviews and articles know that they are written by people and will therefore have a bias. You could have different likes to the writer who is reviewing the game and therefore not like a game, which was reviewed highly. For example you might not like violence, but the writer has classed an extremely violent game 9.5/10. You will have a different opinion than this so make sure you use your own discretion before buying as well as taking the advice of those who have reviewed the game.

These websites are able to offer you these free reviews by charging advertisers to place ads on their sites. Magazines make the majority of money from advertising also; the only reason magazines charge you is that they have a cost for putting their writing in print.

One of the best things about the internet is you can easily search for specific video game articles by using a search engine such as Google or Yahoo. Simply type in the name of the game, followed by the word review. If you want a review of the highly popular game Super Smash Bros then type “Super Smash Bros Review”. It can also help to type the word Wii into the search engine also so you can get a game review specific to the Wii console. So for the example above type “Super Smash Bros Wii Review” and you should get some good results.

So now you should be well equipped to find a review on any game you want to find out about. This will save you a lot of money and will make your gaming experience all the more entertaining.
