Animal Crossing takes last week’s sales chart overseas…
Excerpt from the article…
“It’s a Wii game at the top of the chart, but it’s the DS which dominates the Top 10, with six of the titles featured appearing the handheld gaming platform. The highest of these is Chrono Trigger DS from Square Enix, which is new at No.2 thanks to unit sales of 271,000.”
“The Japanese Top 30 features 12 titles on NintendoDS, five on Wii, four on PSP, four on PS3, three on PS2 and two on Xbox 360.”
Japan sure does like their handheld games. At least there are more Wii titles on the chart than PS3 or the struggling 360 titles.
Sure, they have the legal right to do this. But I can understand the frustration some people must feel, especially if they don’t feel like fighting over the crowds. Anyways, who decided that everyone must shop on Black Friday anyway? It seems like a silly tradition to me.
The Wii continues to draw in people who we normally wouldn’t think of as gamers, including these senior citizen centers that instead of forming leagues for a traditional bowling alley, have instead formed leagues to play WiiBowling.
Are people like that ultimately hurting the video game industry as a whole though? Does the very chance that Nintendo can attract old people in their 80s who wouldn’t otherwise think of video games cause Nintendo to be lazy in making hardcoregames like Mario and Zelda? Think about it. Nintendo could pay a small development team to create something like Wii Sports and it will sell the exact same amount as when they pay a lot more for a large development team to make Zelda. This gives Nintendo less incentive to put effort in their older franchises, no matter how hard they say they are still working on them.
Also, I mean let’s face it, the most hardcore of gamers will buy almost anything that is new. So if one day they decided to dumb down Zelda in order to attract a larger crowd, would we not still buy the new Zelda, just because of the name alone?
In an interview with 1UP Kenichiro Yuji, game director at Square-Enix, said that they’re not planning to release more downloadable content for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King. Nintendojo reports that Capcom has confirmed that Mega Man 9 will support the WiiRemote held sideways, but the GameCube- and Classic-controllers can be used as well. Owners of a Wii NES RetroPort adapter can probably use it to play with the original NES-controller, but there’s no confirmation on that yet.
Well, Nintendo definitely couldn’t take the pressure from this one, and the once proclaimed game Frat Party Games - Beer Pong, being developed by JV Games, was now re-named Frat Party Games - Pong Toss, after being told by the high-ups at Nintendo that they couldn’t have a game with that kind of name on they’re console.
